Jamie Sabellon

 

 

Jamie participated in the IB and Rotary Life programs while attending Cajon High School. She graduated as a Salutatorian in 2010, and graduated from UCLA in 2013 where she acquired a B.A. in Applied Linguistics. After graduating, Jamie became involved with Youth Action Project /AmeriCorps for a year before attending the University of Redlands to gain her Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders. In addition, Jamie is currently working part-time as a Substitute Teacher in a preschool for children with special needs.

 

Jamie has always been interested in sharing her culture and learning about others, so she helped organize Asian American Cultural Night at Cajon High School when she was the Asian Club president. At UCLA, Jamie continued to be involved by participating in Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night (SPCN).

 

While at UCLA, Jamie also worked as an Administrative Analyst Assistant at the Computer Science Department, researched temperature sensitivity of plant bugs, and volunteered at the community and the hospital.  In the Los Angeles community, Jamie became involved with Dream Team-LA and tutored Latino adults who were learning how to read and write in Spanish. At the hospital, she shadowed various healthcare professionals, where she learned about Speech-Language Pathology. With interests in language acquisition, healthcare, and an intrinsic desire to help others, Jamie decided to pursue Speech-Language Pathology and will be receiving her Master’s degree in 2017 to be able to practice the profession. In addition to taking the necessary courses for the degree, she is also involved in bilingualism and stuttering research projects.
