Dexter Thomas graduated from CHS in 2002. Afterwards, he received his Bachelors degree in English from UC Riverside in 2006. At UCR he was very involved in music and the college radio program. He also worked in China as an English Second Language (ESL) teacher, and in Riverside as a high school English teacher. From 2008-2010, he studied Japanese youth culture in Tokyo and returned in 2014 after being awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. He is currently a PhD candidate at Cornell University focusing on East Asian Studies and is writing his dissertation on Japanese hip-hop. He is also a writer at the Los Angeles Times.
